Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck is into the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and he was performing well this season until he sustained a nasty injury when the gunners faced Sporting Lisbon. The severity of the injury is still unknown but Arsenal’s boss Unai Emery confirmed that the Englishman’s ankle got broken.
Most reports say that Danny Welbeck will be out for six months and if this was to be believed, then he will come back from his injury in the last few weeks of the 2018/19 season and Arsenal fans fear that the gunners might not offer him a new deal since he will have missed 3/4 of the season. The gunners have already shown their ruthlessness when it comes to choosing players who get their contracts extended because no-one expected the North Londoners to axe Aaron Ramsey yet Unai Emery said that he was the most important player when he had just been appointed as the new head coach.
Some Arsenal fans want Danny Welbeck to stay at Arsenal and BBC’s David Ornstein has given them some hope as he says that the Englishman will be offered a new contract even though he is currently injured.
“I think there have been some initial discussions about offering Welbeck a contract, if the numbers are right for the club, bearing in mind he could be out for a while,”I don’t think it’s a sentimental thing, but they value him very highly at Arsenal.” David Ornstein told Arseblog via CannonInsider.
It is however uncertain whether the gunners made the decision to give Danny a new contract when he was still fit or it came later after he had undergone two operations. We will now need it wait and see how negotiations between Welbeck’s representatives and Arsenal go.
